Implementing yoga and meditation programs in local rural schools.

Children in lower primary classes meditating
in the morning session

This initiative is to teach basic meditation, pranayama and yoga techniques to children in order to help them become more aware of their bodies and minds.  This will allow them the ability to become more self-aware and centered in their daily lives.

With continued practice, these techniques will help reduce emotional disturbances, and help the children be more grounded and balanced in all situations, along with the opportunity for them to begin the exploration process of getting in touch with their true timeless nature.

In the Indranagar village Bangarpet, we started teaching yoga and meditation to children.  The sessions are every morning and are filled with activities that are helping them become more in tune with their mind-body-spirit relationship and increase creativity in them.

The teacher is instructing the children,
she has been trained over the past few months
and always supported when she needs help
Through the use of music and moments of silence the children’s senses are relaxed and they are able to feel at peace for a few moments.  The sessions are started and finished with silence, and this will help the children slowly become more aware of their thought processes and help them understand how to slow these processes of thinking down, and eventually allow them to be able to hear and clearly understand their own inner voice.

We are working on creating a simple yoga and meditation curriculum for training teachers and volunteers, who will then instruct the children. Children are also introduced to the philosophy of existence to help them in their self discovery with the help of simple examples and concepts.

We hope to implement this program in other schools in the upcoming academic year and are looking for volunteers who have knowledge in this field who would be interested in sharing their knowledge with the teachers and children, and help teach yoga and meditation classes to children in schools.

Anyone who is interested can write to to discuss further on how we can collaborate in this matter. Volunteers will be given instruction and assistance in the matter, and guide on how to train and transition this to the school teacher. We are also looking for donations for mats and other props for the yoga and meditation classes.
